Vitamin C – Everything you need to know about this must have key skincare ingredient
Acne and I were good friends for a good 15 years before I decided to call things off. I tried everything on the market to achieve the clear skin that I could only really dream of but nothing ever got me there. So it seemed impossible for me.
But then I stopped trusting that all the products on the shelf were created equal and started doing my own research.
I’ve mentioned this on my instagram before and received a lot of questions about what you should look for when shopping for skincare products so I decided to explain by starting with vitamin c.
First off, if you don’t have vitamin c in your routine, I suggest starting.
Vitamin c helps with your body’s natural regeneration process, is an anti oxygen that helps fight free radicals, evens skin tone, protects against sun damage and helps collagen production.
All the good things.
IF you’re buying the right kind of vitamin c there’s lots to consider before committing to a purchase, down to the kind of bottle it’s in.
So here’s what to look for:
- You want it to have a concentration between 10%-20%. Anything less than 10% won’t be effective enough and anything over can lead to irritation and doesn’t have any additional benefits.
- You’ll want a bottle that is dark or tinted in some way to protect it from sunlight and something airtight.
- Look for a serum with an eye dropper instead of an air pump to help preserve the product. Light and air can make your product expire before you really get the benefits of it.
- Vitamin C works best with the help of some friends like vitamin E, ferulic acid and L-ascorbic acid. The vitamin e will help stabilize while the ferulic and ascorbic will help your skin absorb every last drop
With that information, go checkout your skincare and make sure you’re spending money on products that actually work. Otherwise you’re just spending money on a pretty shelfie.
Below are my two favorite Vitamin C serums that check all the right boxes:
Drunk Elephant C-Firma
